Wednesday, 27 January 2010 00:00

Authors: biggreenjewish.org

Age Group: 14-16, 16-18,

Format: Activity

Description: Environmentalism is one of many contemporary issues that people are concerned with and this offers an opportunity to explore the relevance of Judaism in today’s society. This session should also aim to engage the participants in answering the question – How is Judaism relevant to me today? How do I shape my Jewish Identity in a way that contributes to my own and the world’s needs?

The session should also offer an example of the continual development of Judaism and encourage the participants to see themselves as part of that ‘flexible tradition’ and consider how they will contribute to its development.

Age Group: 7-11

Format: Activity; Lesson Plan

Description: The UK Government would like every school to be a sustainable school by 2020. A sustainable school prepares young people for a lifetime of sustainable living, through its teaching, its fabric and its day-to-day practices. It is guided by a commitment to care for oneself, for each other (across cultures, distances and generations); and for the environment itself (far and near). The Big Green Jewish Website follows the government's 8 steps and has lesson plans for each covering: 1. Food and Drink 2. Energy and Water 3. Travel and Traffic 4. Purchasing and Waste 5. Buildings and Grounds 6. Inclusion and Participation 7. Local Well Being 8. Global Citizenship
